About This Procedure

What is a Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that reduces or reshapes the labia minora (inner lips of the vulva). It is performed for functional reasons — such as discomfort during exercise, intercourse or when wearing certain clothing — and sometimes for personal aesthetic concerns. Both are valid reasons to seek treatment. At Optimised Care, labiaplasty is performed by a consultant gynaecologist in a fully private, confidential setting. The procedure is most commonly done under local anaesthetic as a day case, though general anaesthetic is available if preferred.

Common Question

Is this a procedure I should feel embarrassed about?

Not at all. Labiaplasty is a legitimate medical procedure sought for both functional and personal reasons. Our consultants are experienced in treating patients with complete discretion and no judgement. Your comfort and wellbeing are our only concern. Everything about your consultation and treatment is completely confidential.

Step by Step

What happens on the day?

01

Consultation and consent

Your consultant discusses your concerns, expectations and medical history. Photographs may be taken for your clinical record. The procedure and aftercare are explained fully before you consent.

02

The procedure

Under local or general anaesthetic, the excess or asymmetric labial tissue is carefully removed and the edges closed with dissolvable sutures. The procedure takes 1-2 hours. Great care is taken to preserve sensation and achieve a natural, comfortable result.

03

Recovery and discharge

You rest briefly before going home the same day. You will be given wound care instructions, prescribed pain relief and a follow-up appointment. An ice pack and supportive underwear will help with initial swelling.

Your Outcomes

Recovery after labiaplasty

Swelling and bruising are normal after labiaplasty and can be more pronounced than expected — this is not cause for concern. Most of the swelling resolves within 4-6 weeks, with the final result visible at around 3 months. Following your aftercare instructions carefully is important for a good outcome.

Day 1-3

Rest at home. Ice packs to reduce swelling. Loose, breathable clothing recommended.

1-2 weeks

Return to light desk-based work. Avoid strenuous activity, intercourse and tight clothing.

4-6 weeks

Most swelling resolved. Return to exercise and intercourse as advised by your consultant.

3 months

Final result visible. Follow-up with consultant.

Labiaplasty is a well-established procedure with a high success rate. As with all surgery, risks exist including infection, blood clots, and complications. Your consultant will discuss your individual risk profile before you proceed.
