Overview

Confidential women’s health services.

Our gynaecology service offers prompt access to specialist diagnostic and surgical care in a private, comfortable setting. We see you quickly, take your symptoms seriously, and walk you through every option before any decision is made.

Below is the range of procedures we currently offer. Each is performed by a consultant gynaecologist, with most carried out as day-case keyhole surgery at The Bromsgrove Hospital.

Laparoscopies

Laparoscopies

Keyhole gynaecological surgery to diagnose and treat conditions inside the pelvis.

Laparoscopy is a keyhole surgical technique used in gynaecology both to diagnose and to treat a wide range of conditions affecting the pelvic organs — including endometriosis, ovarian cysts, fibroids, and pelvic pain of unclear cause. A tiny camera is inserted through a small incision near the navel, with additional small incisions used for specialist instruments.

Compared with traditional open surgery, laparoscopy offers smaller scars, less pain, a shorter hospital stay, and a faster return to normal activities. Most laparoscopic procedures at Optimised Care are day cases or a single-night stay, performed under general anaesthetic.

Bilateral Salpingo-oophorectomy

Bilateral Salpingo-oophorectomy

Surgical removal of both ovaries and fallopian tubes, performed laparoscopically where possible.

Bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy is the surgical removal of both ovaries and fallopian tubes. It may be recommended to manage ovarian cysts, endometriosis, certain genetic risks of ovarian cancer (such as BRCA), or after the menopause when ongoing problems persist.

Where possible the operation is performed laparoscopically — keyhole, through small incisions — which means less pain, shorter recovery, and minimal scarring compared with open surgery. Your consultant will explain the implications of removing the ovaries before menopause (including changes to hormone levels) and discuss whether hormone replacement therapy is appropriate for you.

Hysteroscopies

Hysteroscopies

Camera examination of the uterine cavity to investigate abnormal bleeding, fibroids, or polyps.

A hysteroscopy uses a thin camera passed through the cervix to look directly inside the uterus. It is the gold standard investigation for abnormal uterine bleeding, post-menopausal bleeding, suspected polyps or fibroids, recurrent miscarriage, and difficulty conceiving.

At Optimised Care, diagnostic hysteroscopies are often performed in the outpatient setting under local anaesthetic — a quick appointment that lets you go home the same day. Where treatment of a polyp or fibroid is required during the procedure (operative hysteroscopy), a short general anaesthetic may be used.

Mirena Coil Insertion

Mirena Coil Insertion

Long-acting hormonal coil — contraception, heavy bleeding management, and HRT support.

The Mirena is a small T-shaped device fitted inside the uterus that releases a steady low dose of the hormone levonorgestrel. It is highly effective contraception for up to 8 years and is also routinely used to manage heavy periods, painful periods, endometriosis, and as the progesterone component of hormone replacement therapy.

At Optimised Care, insertion is done in the outpatient clinic — typically a 10-15 minute appointment. We can also remove and replace existing coils, and offer specialist insertion for women who have found a previous insertion difficult or who have specific anatomical considerations.

Endometriosis Treatment

Endometriosis Treatment

Diagnosis and laparoscopic treatment of endometriosis — managing pain, fertility, and quality of life.

Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside it — most commonly on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and pelvic lining. It can cause severe period pain, pelvic pain at other times of the month, pain during sex, and difficulty conceiving. Many women wait years for a diagnosis.

Our gynaecology team offers prompt assessment, imaging, and where appropriate laparoscopy — the only definitive way to diagnose endometriosis and to treat it surgically. Treatment is tailored to your symptoms, your fertility wishes, and the extent of disease. Hormonal and medical management options are also discussed in full alongside surgical options.

Cyst Removal

Cyst Removal

Surgical removal of ovarian and other gynaecological cysts — keyhole where possible.

Ovarian cysts are common and most are harmless, but some — because of their size, symptoms, or appearance on a scan — need to be removed. Other cysts treated by our gynaecology team include Bartholin's cysts (at the vaginal opening) and cervical cysts.

Where possible, ovarian cysts are removed laparoscopically (keyhole surgery) preserving the ovary itself — this is called a cystectomy. Open surgery is reserved for larger or more complex cysts. Bartholin's cysts can usually be treated under local anaesthetic in an outpatient setting.
