Your questions,

Everything you need to know about consultations, treatment, payment, and aftercare at Optimised Care. If your question is not covered below, our team is always happy to help.

Getting Started

You can book a consultation by calling our dedicated bookings team on 0121 822 0122, or by completing the online enquiry form on our website. Our team is available Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, and will help you find a convenient appointment time with the appropriate specialist. Most patients are seen within one to two weeks of their initial enquiry.

A GP referral is not required for a private consultation at Optimised Care. You are welcome to self-refer directly to any of our specialists. However, if you do have a referral letter from your GP, please bring it along to your appointment as it may contain useful clinical information. Some insurance providers do require a GP referral for claim purposes, so we recommend checking with your insurer beforehand.

At your first appointment, you will be welcomed by our reception team and asked to complete a brief medical history form. Your consultant will then carry out a thorough assessment, which may include a physical examination and a discussion of your symptoms, medical history, and any previous treatments. They will explain your diagnosis clearly, outline the available treatment options, and answer any questions you may have. A personalised treatment plan will be recommended before you leave.

Initial consultation fees vary depending on the specialty and the consultant you see. Prices typically start from around £200 for an outpatient consultation. A full breakdown of costs will be provided when you book your appointment, and there are no hidden fees. If further treatment or surgery is recommended, you will receive a detailed, transparent quote before proceeding.

Treatment & Procedures

Optimised Care provides expert treatment across a range of specialties, including Orthopaedics, Urology, ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat), General Surgery, and Private GP services. Each specialty is led by experienced consultants who are leaders in their field, ensuring you receive the highest standard of care throughout your treatment journey.

Once your surgery is booked, you will receive a detailed preparation guide tailored to your specific procedure. General advice includes fasting from midnight the night before your operation, arranging for someone to drive you home, and wearing loose, comfortable clothing. You will attend a pre-operative assessment where our nursing team will review your medical history, carry out any required blood tests or health checks, and answer your questions. You should continue taking prescribed medications unless told otherwise by your consultant.

We offer a full range of anaesthesia options depending on the procedure being performed. These include local anaesthesia, regional anaesthesia (such as nerve blocks or spinal anaesthesia), sedation, and general anaesthesia. Your consultant and anaesthetist will discuss the most appropriate option for your procedure and take into account your medical history and personal preferences. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and raise any concerns before the day of surgery.

Many of our procedures are carried out as day cases, meaning you can return home on the same day. For more complex surgeries, an overnight stay or a short inpatient stay of one to three days may be required. Your consultant will advise you on the expected length of stay during your pre-operative consultation so you can plan accordingly. Our team will ensure you are comfortable and clinically ready before discharge.

Payment & Insurance

We accept payment by debit card, credit card, and bank transfer. Payment is typically required prior to your procedure or at the time of your consultation. Our accounts team will provide you with a clear invoice and can assist with any payment queries. If you have any specific requirements, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Yes, we are recognised by Aviva, Bupa, Healix, Vitality, and WPA. If you wish to use your insurance, please obtain an authorisation number from your insurer before your appointment and provide this at the time of booking. We can liaise directly with your insurance company to streamline the claims process on your behalf.

Yes, we understand that private healthcare is an investment in your wellbeing, and we want to make treatment accessible. We offer flexible finance plans that allow you to spread the cost of your treatment over a period of months. Our team can discuss the available options with you during your consultation or when you receive your treatment quote. All finance arrangements are subject to status and approval.

Our treatment quotes are designed to be fully transparent with no hidden costs. A standard surgical quote includes the consultant surgeon fee, anaesthetist fee, hospital facility charges, nursing care, your hospital stay, and any routine follow-up appointments. Diagnostic tests, implants, or prosthetics required for your procedure will be itemised separately. You will receive a full written breakdown before you commit to treatment.

Recovery & Aftercare

All patients at Optimised Care receive comprehensive follow-up care as part of their treatment pathway. This typically includes one or more post-operative consultations with your surgeon to review your recovery and healing. Depending on the procedure, you may also receive physiotherapy referrals, wound care advice, and tailored rehabilitation plans. Our nursing team is available by phone to answer questions during your recovery period.

Recovery times vary depending on the type of procedure and the nature of your work. For minor day-case procedures, many patients return to desk-based work within a few days. More involved surgeries may require two to six weeks off work, particularly if your role involves physical activity or manual handling. Your consultant will provide specific guidance based on your procedure, and a medical certificate can be provided if needed.

After your procedure, you will be provided with direct contact details for our clinical team. You can reach us by calling 0121 822 0122 during office hours, Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm. For non-urgent queries, you may also email our patient services team. In the event of a medical emergency outside of these hours, you should attend your nearest Accident & Emergency department or call 999.

Although complications are rare, your safety is our highest priority. If you experience any unexpected symptoms following your procedure — such as excessive pain, bleeding, swelling, fever, or signs of infection — please contact our team immediately on 0121 822 0122. During office hours, our clinical staff can arrange an urgent review with your consultant. Outside of office hours, please attend your nearest A&E department and inform them of your recent procedure. We will always follow up to ensure your full recovery.
